About upmystreet.org
What is upmystreet.org?
upmystreet.org is a neighbourhood information service for every UK postcode. Enter any postcode and get a detailed picture of the area: local statistics, nearby services, school performance, council data, and more.
The page adapts to where you are. Postcodes near the coast get tide tables. London postcodes show Tube stations. Welsh postcodes show Senedd constituencies. The information is always relevant to your location.
History
The original UpMyStreet launched in August 1998, one of the first websites to make UK government data accessible and useful to ordinary people. It showed you what your area was really like — crime rates, school results, house prices, local services — all organised by postcode.
This is a ground-up rebuild of that idea, using modern open data sources and built with accessibility and privacy at its core.
Data philosophy
We use open government data published under the Open Government Licence. Our sources include the Office for National Statistics, Ordnance Survey, HM Land Registry, the NHS, Ofsted, and many others.
Every dataset is reproducible from source. Our database can be rebuilt from the original raw data files at any time. We don't buy, scrape, or infer data about individuals.
Where time-series data is available, we go back as far as we can — long trend lines are one of our most useful features.
Design principles
- No tracking. No cookies, no analytics pixels, no ad networks. See our privacy page for details.
- Accessibility first. The site works with screen readers, keyboard navigation, and reduced-motion preferences.
- Fast and lightweight. No JavaScript frameworks, no megabytes of dependencies. Pages load quickly on any connection.
- Open data. We use publicly available government data, properly attributed.
